Music Education for Young Children
Musikgarten's nationally acclaimed music education program is designed to meet children's developmental needs, from birth to 9 years. Musikgarten offers a coordinated, sequential curricula to grow with your child, culminating in group classes at the piano. We strive to awaken and develop your child’s inborn joy and talent for making music, and to set them on the path to music literacy and a comprehensive musicianship that opens the door to a world of possibilities for music-making throughout their lives.
Children have a special sensitivity for music and movement in their early years. It is the perfect time to begin a child's musical education, nurturing that natural love for singing and musical play. Making music is a joyful, nurturing experience to share with your child. We offer a full three years of music for infants and toddlers.
During the preschool years, your child's musical ability will continue to develop through experiences with active music-making, movement, listening games, and rhythmic activities. As children's musical perception grows, we begin to introduce solfege and rhythmic syllables, laying the groundwork for music literacy. In our program for ages 3-5, musical learning takes place in the context of exploring the world around us--the changing seasons, nature's habitats, and other cultures around the world. We also offer an in-school program designed especially for preschools.
In this three year sequence of classes, music literacy at the keyboard is our goal. Children learn to play by ear, as well as learning to read and write music. The class is active and fun, including singing, dancing, drumming, and ensemble playing along with time at the keyboard. The group experience allows children to learn from each other and enjoy making music together, as they develop aural, technical, and music reading skills that will prepare them for future study on the piano or any other instrument.
