Dear Parents,
Our new materials for Spring Semester have arrived! I've added new zipper pockets for the childre to use as a place to keep their card sets. Please have your child bring his/her Keyboard Class folder, including their keyboard workbook and zipper pocket, to class each week (CD's can stay home). Then we can use their card sets for games we play together in class. It will also make it possible for me to check their homework pages regularly.
I've added Spring semester dates to the Keyboard Class calendar below. If you have any questions or concerns about the class, please feel free to contact me!
Monday Class: At Home This Week
February 13, 2012
Keyboard:.
Continue working on the melody for Who's That? with your Practice CD (Track #5) in D Major position. Remember to sing as you play. If you can play the melody easily in D, try it in a new position (C or G!). Then add a 2-note accompaniment in your left hand.
Choose a song that we have learned that you would like to share in class next week. If you can play it easily, try it in a new position or add left hand accompaniment.
Listening:
Try Melodic Notation Game #3 using your blue Melody Pattern Cards and your Practice CD (Track #10). This game is different--it asks you to listen to longer phrases that combine 2 or 3 pattern cards.
Listen to your new Amerindian CD!
Write/Read:
Take out your blue Melody Pattern Cards. Choose 3 cards. Sing the patterns, then arrange them in a row. Make sure that the last card ends on do. Sing the composition you have made, and copy it on the back of your Who's That Song Page.
Friday Class: At Home This Week
February 17, 2012
Please also bring your completed Red Workbook to class next week, so I can sign your certificate of completion!
Keyboard:
Practice Bim Bam in e minor using your Practice CD (Track #16). Remember to begin your practice with Keyboard Warmups for minor: la-do-mi/mi-do-la and la-ti-do-re-mi/mi-re-do=ti-la. (Hint: e minor has one black key--the first one in the group of 3 black notes).
Practice two of your favorite songs from the ones we've learned in class so far. We will share them in class next week.
Listening:
Duple Notation Game #1, (Track #2 on your new Practice CD) with your new pink card set.
Write/Read
p. 6 in your new Keyboard Workbook: Mystery Song #1. First, look for patterns: circle do-re-mi-fa-sol in red, sol-mi-do in blue, re-fa-mi in green. Then play the song on the keyboard. (Note: some patterns will overlap.)
P. 7 in your new Keyboard Workbook: Half note duple patterns, with your new pink card set.
